The charges are of hooliganism that call for 7 years imprisonment for a 1-minute performance on February 21 in a priests-only section of Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Savior. The investigator’s report claims religious hatred. The intention of the performance was to draw attention to the special relationship with President Putin and the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church.

One week after the performance at Cathedral of Christ the Savior, an edited video piece appeared on Youtube, and a week after that the police were instructed to arrest the group’s known members.

Since March 4th, the women have sat in pre-trial detention, refused bail due to the authorities’ fear for the women’s safety. Please refer to freepussyriot.org/news for the subsequent 4 months of news.

July 30 – August 15 Moscow’s Khamovnichesky District Court will be considering the merits of the Pussy Riot case.

The European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has recently made clear its intentions to hear a complaint registered by the defense team.

Mark Feigin, acting for the three women, said he had asked to summon witnesses including Mr Putin and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, head of the Russian Orthodox Church.

This state may be stronger than time in jail.

The more arrests, the happier it is.
Every arrest is carried out with love for the sexist

Who botoxed his cheeks and pumped his chest and abs.

But you can’t nail us in the coffin.
Throw off the yoke of former KGB!

Putin is lighting the fires of revolution
He’s bored and scared of sharing silence with the people
With every execution: the stench of rotten ash
With every long sentence: a wet dream

The country is going, the country is going into the streets boldly
The country is going, the country is going to bid farewell to the regime
The country is going, the country is going, like a feminist wedge
And Putin is going, Putin is going to say goodbye like a sheep

Arrest the whole city for May 6th
Seven years isn’t enough, give us 18!
Forbid us to scream, walk and curse!
Go and marry Father Lukashenko

Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist punk-rock band based in Moscow. Founded in August 2011, the band stages politically provocative impromptuperformances about Russian political life in unusual locations, such as on top of a trolleybus or on a scaffold in the Moscow Metro.

On February 21, 2012, four members of the group staged a performance on thesoleas of Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, motivated by their opposition to the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the politics of theRussian Orthodox Church.[1][2] Their actions were stopped by church security officials. On March 3, after a video of the performance appeared online, three of the group members were arrested and charged with hooliganism.[3]

Their trial began in late July and raised much controversy in Russia and globally. According to a poll by the Levada Center, 44% of Russians supported the trial and believed in its fairness, while 17% did not.[4] At the same time, the band members gained some noticeable support in Russia and internationally because of allegations of harsh treatment while in custody and the risk of a possible seven-year jail sentence.[5][6]

On August 17, 2012, the three members were convicted of hooliganism (article 213.2 of the Criminal Code) motivated by religious hatred and each sentenced to two years imprisonment.[7][8] The Russian Orthodox Church issued a statement appealing to the authorities to show clemency, within the framework of the law. The Church cast no doubt on the legitimacy of the court’s decision.[9][10] The trial and conviction have attracted international criticism.[11] The foreign ministries of Germany and Sweden, together with representatives of the European Union and the United States, called the sentence “disproportionate”.[12]

Lyrics of Songs of Pussy Riot

Punk-Prayer «Virgin Mary, Put Putin Away»(choir)

Virgin Mary, Mother of God, put Putin away
Рut Putin away, put Putin away

(end chorus)

Black robe, golden epaulettes
All parishioners crawl to bow
The phantom of liberty is in heaven
Gay-pride sent to Siberia in chains

The head of the KGB, their chief saint,
Leads protesters to prison under escort
In order not to offend His Holiness
Women must give birth and love

Shit, shit, the Lord’s shit!
Shit, shit, the Lord’s shit!

(Chorus)

Virgin Mary, Mother of God, become a feminist
Become a feminist, become a feminist

(end chorus)

The Church’s praise of rotten dictators
The cross-bearer procession of black limousines
A teacher-preacher will meet you at school
Go to class – bring him money!

Patriarch Gundyaev believes in Putin
Bitch, better believe in God instead
The belt of the Virgin can’t replace mass-meetings
Mary, Mother of God, is with us in protest!

(Chorus)

Virgin Mary, Mother of God, put Putin away
Рut Putin away, put Putin away

(end chorus)

Putin Got Scared

A rebellious column moves toward the Kremlin,
Windows explode inside FSB offices.
Bitches piss behind the red walls
Riot calls for the System’s Abortion!

Attack at dawn? Am not against it,
For our joint freedom, a whip to chastise with
Madonna to her glory will learn to fight
Feminist Magdalene go demonstrate

Revolt in Russia – the charisma of protest
Revolt in Russia – pissed on by Putin
Revolt in Russia – We Exist!
Revolt in Russia – Riot! Riot!

Take to the streets
Live on the Red
Set free the rage
Of civil anger

(loss on the square)

Discontent with the culture of male hysteria
Wild leaderism devours brains
The Orthodox religion of a hard penis
Patients are asked to accept conformity

The regime heads toward censorship of dreams
The time has come for subversive clashing
A pack of bitches from the sexist regime
Begs forgiveness of a feminist wedge.

Revolt in Russia – the charisma of protest
Revolt in Russia – Putin got scared
Revolt in Russia – We Exist!
Revolt in Russia – Riot! Riot!

Take to the streets
Live on the Red
Set free the rage
Of civil anger

“Death to Prison, Freedom to Protest”

The joyful science of occupying squares
The will to everyone’s power, without damn leaders
Direct action – the future of mankind!
LGBT, feminists, defend the nation!

Death to prison, freedom to protest

Make the cops serve freedom,
Protests bring on good weather
Occupy the square, do a peaceful takeover
Take away the guns from all the cops

Death to prison, freedom to protest

Fill the city, all the squares and streets,
There are many in Russia, beat it,
Open all the doors, take off the shoulder straps
Taste the smell of freedom together with us

Death to prison, freedom to protest

“Kropotkin-Vodka”

Occupy the city with a kitchen frying pan
Go out with a vacuum, get off on it,
Seduce battalions of police damsels
Naked cops rejoice in the new reforms

The fucking end to sexist putinists!

Kropotkin-vodka splashes in the bellies
You feel good, but those Kremlin bastards
Face the revolt of the toilets, fatal poisoning
Flashing lights won’t save you, Kennedy will meet you

The fucking end to informant bosses!

Caught some zzz’s, time to oppress the day
The knuckle-duster’s ready, feminism’s sharpened
Take your soup away to Eastern Siberia
So that Riot will become rough enough

The fucking end to sexist putinists!
The fucking end to sexist putinists!
The fucking end to sexist putinists!

“Raze the Pavement”

The Egyptian air is good for the lungs
Do a Tahrir on the Red Square
Spend a violent day among strong women
Look for scrap on the balcony, raze the pavement

It is never too late to become a dominatrix
The bludgeons are loaded, screams get louder,
Stretch the muscles of your arms and legs
The cop is licking you between the legs

The toilets are clean, chickens are in their civvies,
Specters of Zizek washed away in the toilets
Khimki Forest plundered, Chirikova banned from elections,
And the feminists sent home on maternity leave.
